Condor Wins the 2010 race.

Exciting News as Condor wins Cruising Division of the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week.

After a week of racing, Condor won the regatta ahead of the 33 other entries in Cruising Division.  Dave Molloy thanked all the crew, but in particular named Japanese Sailmaker Seiichi Yoshikawa and Peter Jervis from Sydney. Both men have sailed the last 3 Hamilton Island Race Week's around the Whitsundays on Condor.

Sailing Courses are planned to experience the natural beauty of the Whitsunday's, so the scenery is spectacular, however, the fleet need to maintain a watch... not only for other yachts, but also Humpback Whales who call the Whitsundays home from July to September.

Race 1 is generally the 3rd Saturday in August and while a schedule for each days courses is set, the race committee make adjustments based on the prevailing wind and tides.

During the week a lay day is held, so our guests can hang out at Hamilton Island or come for a relaxing Sail to experience some of the Whitsundays coral reefs for snorkelling, diving or swimming.

The story of Hamilton Island Race Week 2009

During the 2009 Race, Conditions were light in the Whitsunday's with northerly breezes making sailing a challenge, particularly for the 24 metre Maxi Condor, which would  have preferred a bit more breeze, maybe another 10 knots of to really get up and sail fast.

Nevertheless, Skipper Dave Molloy was happy that he had a great group of guests on board, who quickly formed a tight crew for this, Australia's premier yachting event.

Overall, the crew did particularly well achieving a 3rd place in the second race and 1st place in their Division for Race number 5.

In the Photo to right
, guest Lindsay Mullard is at the helm of Condor, while smaller yachts in the background run before the breeze with their kites up.

194 Yachts entered in the 2009 Race, and Condor was one of the largest.

Light Conditions and Big Yachts mean  Sails the size of a tennis court, and Condor's Kite (Spinnaker) was no exception.

In this photo, Mark Christian, is seen pumping on the grinders to trim the kite and keep it as full as possible, which is an integral part of the job....

However, it in the light conditions with glorious Queensland sunshine..... it was questionnable whether trimming the kite was as important as the 1st drink after returning back to Hamilton Island Marina after each race.
